Sanctity of Human Life Sunday

18 01 2009

Today, praise God for the miracle of life and pray that our country
would repent of what we have done in the name of choice and rights.

Sanctity of Human Life

“For You formed my inward parts;
You wove me in my mother’s womb.
I will give thanks to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
Wonderful are Your works,
And my soul knows it very well.”

Psalm 139:13-14

The Testimony of Two More

23 02 2008

How are you doing in your commitment to pray during these 40 days (Feb. 6th- March 16th) for an end to abortion?  I hope you have made the decision to join us in prayer and that this issue weighs heavy on your heart.  I praise God that this week, as I again gathered with others to pray outside of the local Planned Parenthood, I was joined by my friends Jenaya and Becky who stood with me and prayed for 2 hours!  My heart was so encouraged by their presence and to be part of a group of believers filling the sidewalk in front of that evil place with the sounds of scripture, song, and prayer.  At one point we had a lovely choir of eight singing “Amazing Grace” and joining together in reading Psalm 103:1-2!

I asked Jenaya and Becky if they would share with you some of their thoughts on our time at the prayer vigil and they graciously agreed (and wonderfully exceeded my expectations!).  I hope their “testimony” of our time together in prayer will encourage others to join with us during these 40 days, and not just pray with us from home but make your presence known publicly by joining a prayer vigil in your area.  Again, if you’d like to join me this week, just drop me a note and let me know.  Now to the testimonies…

“Pledge a Picketer”

15 02 2008

“Pledge a Picketer”Pray for Life
Those were the words printed on a banner that hung outside the Planned Parenthood I prayed in front of on Monday.  Apparently, Planned Parenthood has a program where their donors give money based on the number of “picketers” that stand outside their abortion clinics.  It turned my stomach to think that the leadership of Planned Parenthood is using people’s care and concern for the unborn as a means to raise profits for their own assault on life.  Their perversion of something good reminded me of God’s judgment upon Israel for their own twisting of righteous actions: “Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter…Therefore, as tongues of fire lick up straw and as dry grass sinks down in the flames, so their roots will decay and their flowers blow away like dust; for they have rejected the law of the LORD Almighty and spurned the word of the Holy One of Israel” (Isaiah 5:20, 24).

I don’t share this to dissuade anyone from praying against or protesting what is going on inside those clinics.  Actually, my time of prayer on Monday greatly encouraged me to do more in the fight against abortion.  I met a dear older brother named “Bud” who had been praying outside Planned Parenthood clinics for over 23 years.  He regularly participates in “sidewalk counseling” (encouraging mothers, who are on their way into the clinic to have an abortion, to reconsider and choose life) and the more time I spent with him, the more I praised God that a man like him (with a loving heart and a kind way about him) had been called to plead with those who were in that desperate place.  He shared that over the years he had helped save 60 babies!  He lamented that the numbers weren’t higher, but I praised God with him for those 60 children and their parents who were spared the horrors of abortion.

Bud shared with me how the particular clinic we were praying outside of had closed its doors and moved 3 times.  Each time he and others like him found the new location and again took up their post outside the clinic doors to pray and encourage those visiting the clinic to choose life.  His is a powerful testimony (God brought this Roman Catholic to Himself through the reading of the Word and Bud now describes himself as a “born again”) and it was wonderful to see a man like him committed to this issue.

But we need more.

My plan is to go back and again pray and sing and share the scripture outside that place.  I’d love to have others join me.  I’d love to have a hundred others join me and see a generations of men and women like Bud rise up and honor God.  As for the “Pledge a Picketer” campaign, I don’t care about their dumb sign or their wicked pledge program.  No matter how much money they raise, it will never come close to the value of those 60 lives saved.

40 Days for Life: Day 1

6 02 2008

Today, men and women around the country are beginning 40 days of focused prayer, asking God to put an end to on demand abortion.  To help give a little more information about the 40 Days for Life campaign and to encourage you to join us in prayer, I thought I’d share some of the content from an email sent out by David Bereit, the director of the 40 Days event.

Beginning on Wednesday, February 6, the pro-life movement is going to explode with new activity and excitement as 59 cities in 31 states launch the most intensive pro-life campaign in history: 40 Days for Life. People of faith and conscience across America will be uniting for: 40 DAYS of prayer and fasting for an end to the tragic injustice of abortion; 40 DAYS of constant, peaceful vigil outside Planned Parenthood and other abortion centers; and 40 DAYS of pro-life community outreach. Many pro-life leaders are now saying that this focused effort could be the ‘tipping point’ that will mark the beginning of the end of abortion in our nation. We also are thrilled to announce that, for the first time, other countries will be joining with the United States for a unified 40 Days for Life campaign — Ireland and Brazil will be conducting 40 Days for Life alongside America from February 6 to March 16. WOW!  The level of enthusiasm about this 40 Days for Life is unprecedented, and it couldn’t come at a more crucial time. Consider these breaking developments of just the last few weeks…

Some Good News in the Fight for Life

23 01 2008

35 years ago yesterday, America relegated life to a choice of convenience and made on demand abortion legal in the United States.  Since then, over 40 million unborn children have had their lives taken.  But maybe the tide of violence against unborn children is turning.  Yesterday, as those who cherish life gathered around state capitals and on the steps of the United States Supreme Court in the annual March for Life, they made a statement: “This must end.”  Is their message being heard?  Here is some good news in this fight for life:
