Sanctity of Human Life Sunday

18 01 2009

Today, praise God for the miracle of life and pray that our country
would repent of what we have done in the name of choice and rights.

Sanctity of Human Life

“For You formed my inward parts;
You wove me in my mother’s womb.
I will give thanks to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
Wonderful are Your works,
And my soul knows it very well.”

Psalm 139:13-14

Dr. Robert George on Obama and Abortion

15 10 2008

Please take the time to read this powerful post by Justin Taylor over at Between Two Worlds.  It again reminds us of what is at stake in this election.  When I read through Obama’s record and views, it just breaks my heart and turns my stomach.

Progress in the Local Fight for Life

30 09 2008

Yesterday was my first day participating in this fall’s 40 days for life prayer vigil.  Amy, Becky and I had a powerful time of prayer together with others outside of our local Planned Parenthood.  As we stood there praying, singing, and reading scripture, we noticed the activity at this usually very busy Planned Parenthood was almost nil.  Others standing with us noticed the same thing and wondered if the clinic was closed for the day.  As we talked about it, one of the prayer leaders (who prays outside of this clinic regularly) shared with us that it appears this particular clinic had moved most of its activities to another clinic during the 40 days.

This reveals a real change in the approach of this particular Planned Parenthood center.

Last fall, when the first 40 days campaign launched, the Planned Parenthood employees and volunteers staged a counter protest.  Each day they would stand opposite of those involved in the prayer vigil, holding banners and chanting their slogans.

However, last spring (with the launch of the second 40 days for life campaign) the counter protest stopped and instead the clinic posted a banner announcing their “Pledge-a-Picketer” fund raising drive.

This year there is no banner and there are no protesters.  There seems to be no fight at all. Again, it appears that for the next 40 days this very strategically located clinic is going to try to function on the move and the presence of the prayer vigil has seriously affected their ability to do business.

Praise God.

Fall 40 Days for Life Campaign

10 09 2008

Last spring, I was blessed with the opportunity to participate in our local 40 Days for Life campaign.  This event is a community-based campaign that draws attention to the evil of abortion through three means: Prayer and fasting, a constant prayer vigil outside of local abortion clinics, and community outreach and information. The event lasts for 40 days and takes place simultaneously in communities all around the country.

Well, the wonderful and committed people who organized last spring’s event are planning an even bigger one for this fall.  This fall’s 40 Days begins September 24 and runs through November 2.  This time there are more than 170 communities participating in 45 states!

I want to encourage you to join us.  The more committed believers taking a stand, the more strongly our comminities will hear the message that the evil of abortion will not be tolerated.  Please join us for prayer, but I’d also encourage you to step out of your comfort zone and to take a public stand against abortion by joining one of the prayer vigils outside of a Planned Parenthood clinic in your area.  For those of you who live in Tacoma, you can go here to sign up for the vigil.  If you live elsewhere, find the 40 Days event in your area by going here.  If you’d like to get wonderful and encouraging updates on the event, sign up here or check out the 40 Days blog.

Out of the mouth of babes

29 08 2008

*Warning!* It’s about to get political!

I was sitting at the dinner table with my family tonight and was feeling kind of silly.  When I’m feeling silly, I sometimes confuse my kids by asking them questions I know they probably won’t understand.  It’s fun to see your kids look at you like you’re an alien when you ask them: “So Jonathan… have you researched any prospectuses so you can use your investment capital more wisely?”

So I turned to Daniel, my genius four year old (he can read at a 3rd grade level), and asked him: “this sure has been an exciting election cycle… who do you think we should vote for?”

He yelled out “Barack Obama!”

After getting over the amused shock that he even knew what I was talking about (and that he’s probably watching too much tv), I then had the following dialogue:

Daddy: Barack Obama, huh?  Why do you think we should vote for him?

Daniel: Well, I think maybe he’s a nice guy and we should vote for nice guys!

Daddy: Oh… and do you know who the other guy is?

Daniel: Yeah, John McCain (with much less enthusiasm)

Daddy: And you don’t think we should vote for him?

Daniel: No.

Daddy: Why not?

Daniel: Well, maybe because he’s a bad guy or maybe he does bad things.  Maybe.

Daddy: Like what kind of bad things?

Daniel: I don’t know.  Maybe he didn’t.

Daddy: Oh, ok.  Well Daniel, did you know that Barack Obama thinks it’s ok to hurt babies?

Daniel: What?! (with a look of shock and confusion) Read the rest of this entry »

Planned Parenthood: “The LensCrafters of Family Planning”?

26 06 2008

Dr. Albert Mohler has posted a disturbing article on the new strategy of Planned Parenthood.  The organization is seeking to take its “product” to a mall near you.  The post does a good job at exposing what is really driving these centers for “social services” and it is not care for the needy, but a desire to make a profit off of the helpless.  Pray that God would thwart this new effort and please continue to support those who truly are caring for the needy and the helpless.

The Testimony of Two More

23 02 2008

How are you doing in your commitment to pray during these 40 days (Feb. 6th- March 16th) for an end to abortion?  I hope you have made the decision to join us in prayer and that this issue weighs heavy on your heart.  I praise God that this week, as I again gathered with others to pray outside of the local Planned Parenthood, I was joined by my friends Jenaya and Becky who stood with me and prayed for 2 hours!  My heart was so encouraged by their presence and to be part of a group of believers filling the sidewalk in front of that evil place with the sounds of scripture, song, and prayer.  At one point we had a lovely choir of eight singing “Amazing Grace” and joining together in reading Psalm 103:1-2!

I asked Jenaya and Becky if they would share with you some of their thoughts on our time at the prayer vigil and they graciously agreed (and wonderfully exceeded my expectations!).  I hope their “testimony” of our time together in prayer will encourage others to join with us during these 40 days, and not just pray with us from home but make your presence known publicly by joining a prayer vigil in your area.  Again, if you’d like to join me this week, just drop me a note and let me know.  Now to the testimonies…
